Dr. Ali Al-Waeli, an esteemed Assistant Professor in the engineering department at American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS), has achieved international recognition for his work in renewable energy. Alongside his global team, Dr. Ali was awarded the prestigious gold medal in the Environment & Natural Resources category at the esteemed Malaysia Technology Expo (MTE) 2023, held in Kuala Lumpur.
The winning invention, titled "Smart Hybrid Renewable Energy System: Design and Development of Integrated Hybrid Solar-Darrieus Wind Turbine System for In-house Power Generation," represents a significant leap in sustainable energy technology. It features a unique integration of a Darrieus type wind turbine within a hybrid PV-Wind system, complete with battery storage and an IoT-based monitoring system. Key features include dual power generation capabilities, energy storage, an optimized wind-turbine design, smart sensing functions, and an easy-to-use interface.
Dr. Ali earned his Ph.D. in Renewable Energy from SERI, UKM in 2019, following a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Sohar University, Oman in 2016. His previous inventions and research have also left a profound impact on the field of solar energy.
