On June 12, 2023, American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) was privileged to welcome a distinguished delegation from the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da'esh/ISIS (UNITAD). Led by Mr. Anees Ahmed, Director of Evidence Management at UNITAD, the delegation held a meeting with Dr. Bruce, President of AUIS, to explore potential avenues of cooperation between the two organizations. Additionally, UNITAD delivered an informative seminar shedding light on the crucial role of the United Nations in achieving accountability for the crimes committed by Da'esh/ISIS in Iraq.
The meeting between the UNITAD delegation and Dr. Bruce marked an important step toward fostering collaboration between AUIS and UNITAD. Both parties expressed a strong commitment to justice, human rights, and the pursuit of accountability for the crimes perpetrated by Da'esh/ISIS. Discussions revolved around ways in which AUIS could contribute its expertise and resources to UNITAD's ongoing efforts.
