Dr. Lynn Rose, Professor in the Social Sciences and Director of Disability Studies at the Center for Gender and Development Studies (CGDS), conducted a workshop on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) at the University of Mosul on May 29, 2023. Dr. Lynn presented the workshop (via Zoom) for students, faculty, and administration. This workshop, “Universal Design for a Better Quality of Life and Learning,” was at the invitation of the Department of Industrial Management, College of Administration and Economics.
Dr. Lynn offered the perspective of disability studies and disability inclusion to the department, whose philosophy is grounded in ergonomics. She points out that “disability is a key factor in ergonomics, and the approaches of UD and ergonomics overlap considerably.” She will return to Mosul in Fall 2023 to conduct a face-to-face workshop on disability and the workplace for the department. Dr. Lynn, who is a disability studies scholar of the ancient world as well as of the modern global South, has offered courses in disability studies at American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) since the spring semester of 2022.
