Art Week 2019 at AUIS
The annual AUIS Art Week kicked off on Sunday, March 31, 2019 with a gallery exhibition of student art work in the University cafeteria organized by the Student Services department.
Paintings and drawings were displayed for the University community to view and enjoy. Other Art Week events that took place on campus included a screening on April 1 of the 2012 Wes Anderson movie, ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ as well as a ‘Meet the Artist’ event with Pshtewan Kamal, hosted by Kashkul.
Engineering major Yad Khalid, a junior from Sulaimani, is an avid painter in his free time and submitted his work to be showcased. He chose to participate in this year’s Art Week exhibition to show off his skills and let his peers know about his passion for art. “It’s fun, I’ve been painting since the age of 13, but I really started focusing on it seriously when I was 15,” he said.
For the next year, Yad hopes the Art Week exhibitions will be even bigger. “That will make people care more about our art work,” he added.
